ATQMRA HANDICAP CHANGES FOR 2019

Staff Report | Wednesday, February 6, 2019

You asked, we listened. When drivers strap in for the 2019 Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic ATQMRA powered by VP Racing Fuels, a new, simplistic rule will be set in place for competitors alike.

Beginning this season, cars will only be required to make three starts in order to establish a handicap for the current season. In years past, cars was only eligible to earn a handicap when competing in a minimum of three of the previous five events ran. Starting in 2019, a car’s handicap status will remain the same once three races in the season are ran, regardless of when those races are run.

“We have had a lot of discussion with full time and part time teams throughout the season, and I think this will help with some of the challenges our teams face.  We are one of the most competitive series out there, and in the past I can see where teams would get discouraged knowing that when they show up they will start behind the full time teams.”  stated series President Buddy Sload.

The Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic ATQMRA powered by VP Racing Fuels is set to begin on Saturday, April 20th, 2019 at the Mahoning Valley Speedway, in Lehighton, PA. For more information about the Premier TQ Midget Racing Organization, and like us on Facebook at facebook.com/atqmra

An Award Winning Weekend: ATQMRA a HUGE Hit at Motorsports 2019

Staff Report | January 24th, 2019

The annual Motorsports Racecar and Trade Show hosted by Len Sammons Productions has come and gone, however the impact the weekend had on the entire ATQMRA organization will remain for a long time. The highlight of the weekend was the recently announced award for “Best Appearing Booth” in class, which was presented to the ATQMRA on behalf of the entire AARN.com staff.

ATQMRA competitor Jeff Kot, owner of Typhoon Digital Studio dedicated much of his personal time over the last month preparing what has become an award winning exhibit, for all show attendees to enjoy. ATQMRA competitor Kyle Taraska and car owner Colin Martin provided much of the framework and content for the booth, to enhance the fan experience throughout the weekend.

The 2019 Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic ATQMRA powered by VP Racing Fuels schedule was announced this weekend as well. The tentative 17 race season is slated to begin at the Mahoning Valley Speedway on April 20th, 2019. Like 2018, the ATQMRA champion will be crowned at Bethel Motor Speedway, on Saturday November 2nd, 2019. As always, the season will officially conclude for the non-points spectacular, the Turkey Derby, at the historic Wall Stadium Speedway on Thanksgiving Weekend.

A lot of excitement was built around the recently announced ¼ Midget and ¾ Midget Development Programs. ATQMRA board members worked exclusively with many of the Quarter Midget Club board members who were accessible during the trade show weekend to raise awareness and receive sign ups from soon to be Quarter Midget graduates. A number of racers from multiple disciplines of motorsports also inquired and signed up for the ¾ Midget Development Program as well. As the summer months approach, more specific details involving scheduling and test days will become available to the general public.

Many ATQMRA regulars are set to invade the Indoor Auto Racing Championship Series this weekend for the 17thAnnual Gambler’s Classic. Reigning Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic ATQMRA Champion Matt Jansich, winner of the Allentown Indoor Friday Feature, is poised to have a strong outing against some of the best racers in the business. Five time Hoosier Tire-Mid Atlantic Champion Ryan Tidman, who is coming off a solid top-10 run in the Allentown Saturday Feature, is determined to put on a showing for his fans this weekend at Boardwalk Hall. 2018 VP Racing Fuels Checkered Flag Award recipient Joey Bailey will be making is 2019 Indoor Championship Series debut. This will be Bailey’s second career attempt to claim victory in the prestigious Gambler’s Classic.

2018 ATQMRA Feature winners Joey Payne and Cole Mullen will be running in Atlantic City this weekend as well. Payne, a two-time winner of the event will be racing wheel-to-wheel with son, Anthony Payne, another ATQMRA regular. The Gambler’s Classic will be a homecoming for Cole and father, “The Rocket” Ronnie Mullen, who both call the Jersey Shore home. ATQMRA veteran Jeff Kot is looking to make a strong comeback in Atlantic City. While showing great speed, Kot lost a front bumper during contact after working his way up into a transfer position for the A-Main. Expect car #17 to be a contender in the 17th Annual Gamblers Classic at Atlantic City’s famous Boardwalk Hall.

Turkey Derby XLV Rules Package Announced; Wings Included

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2018

WALL, NJ- For the first time since the inception of Wall Stadium’s inner oval, the Hoosier Mid-Atlantic ATQMRA powered by VP Racing Fuel will feature wings for a Turkey Derby event beginning this Thanksgiving weekend.

During the previous off-season, in collaboration with ATQMRA board members and speedway officials, the decision was made to require all ATQMRA vehicles to race with wings at Wall Stadium in 2018. From both a safety and competition standpoint, the wings have been a proven success, thus leading to the decision to mandate a winged aero package for 45th running of the Turkey Derby.

Along with the wing requirement, the following rules package will be enforced at Turkey Derby XLV:

  1. 2017 Indoor Engine rules will be allowed.

  2. The minimum weight requirement is 850 pounds with driver post qualifying/race.

  3. A maximum width of 55 inches measured at the bulge of the tire from the outside of the right rear to the outside of the left rear will be mandated.

  4. It will be required that all cars run an outdoor RR tire. (LC5 10 inch, USAC 13 inch).

An entry fee of $40 will be charged to all competitors for this non-points event. Heat race line-ups will be set by group qualifying time trials. Furthermore, the 30-lap feature line up will be set by a redraw per car count, per the ATQMRA rulebook. For more information on the ATQMRA rulebook, please visit ATQMRA.com/about-me/.

The Hoosier Mid-Atlantic ATQMRA portion of Turkey Derby XLV is set to take place on Saturday, November 24th, 2018. In preparation for the event, paid practice sessions will be available to all competitors on both Saturday November 10th, and Saturday November 17th, 2018. For more information regarding the event, please visit wallspeedwayracing.com.

Greg Hodnett Memorial Race

Greg Hodnett

WATERFORD, CT - The sudden passing of 410 Sprint Car racer Greg Hodnett last month struck the Hoosier Mid-Atlantic ATQMRA community. Hodnett, a member of the Pennsylvania Posse made his legacy racing in an area that is considered the home-base for many ATQMRA teams. The ATQMRA honored Greg at the last Wall Stadium Race by running a 27 lap feature event and each car had Hodnett colored ribbons hanging from the back of the cage during the race, that were provided by Sean Case.

The Greg Hodnett Memorial Race, sponsored by ATQMRA driver, Jeff Kot is set to take place this Saturday, October 6th, 2018, at The New London – Waterford Speedbowl in Connecticut. Through this sponsorship, a donation of earnings will be sent directly to the Hodnett family, courtesy of Kot and the ATQMRA.

“Greg Hodnett meant so much to racers all across not only the northeast but nationwide,” explained Kot. “This is a phenomenal opportunity to honor him and also assist his family during this difficult time.”

Many of the ATQMRA drivers and crews follow the dirt sprint car series and not seeing the Hodnett name out on the track gives all the teams a bit of a pause as they remember Greg and his achievements as well as a great family man and friend. He’ll be in our thoughts in Waterford as we take the green flag in The Greg Hodnett Memorial Race.

Pit gates for all racing activities at The New London – Waterford Speedbowl, including the ATQMRA Greg Hodnett Memorial open at 2:00 PM Saturday. The racing action is set to begin at approximately 5:00 PM, with heat and feature races to follow. For more information, please visit the speedbowl’s website at speedbowlct.com.
