Sutton Goes on a Tear at Waterford Wins Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic Wings and Wheels Feature

New London, Ct.August 6, 2016

Geoffrey Sutton of East Stroudsburg, Pa continued his tear in the ATQMRA winning his first big track Feature event at the Waterford SpeedBowl as part of the Wings and Wheels show Saturday night. This was the first time the ATQMRA raced at the SpeedBowl in 21 years. Several drivers did double Duty running their TQ midgets as well as Modifieds and Midgets. Matt Janisch was second with Joey Bailey rounding out the Podium. Heat races were won by Joey Bailey and Ryan Tidman. Next up for the ATQMRA is another winged affair at Mahoning Valley Speedway this coming Saturday August 13th.

The feature race saw a front row of Heat Race winner Joey Bailey and Mike Glaser take the green flag. Bailey got the jump with eighth starting Geoffrey Sutton heading to the top of the first and second turn three wide to sweep into second at the start of the race. The bold move put Sutton on Bailey's bumper but he couldn't mount a serious challenge to Bailey who seemed destined to get the win on 3/8 mile Speedbowl.

Sutton had an opportunity to mount a challenge on a restart before half way and was credited with leading lap 12 only to be overtaken in a side by side battle with Bailey. The pair of graduate quarter midget drivers raced one another clean and hard for the lead on the ultra fast oval. Bailey held the lead with Sutton running a close second. Sutton and Bailey would swap the lead several times before Sutton would assume command on lap 19.

A late race caution would fall for Alison Cumens whose car rolled to a stop just past the safety lane. Sutton would set the pace for the restart with five laps remaining and out drag Bailey down the front straight away with Janisch moving into second. Sutton would go on to win by .797 seconds over point leading Janisch who charged from his 13th starting position. Bailey would settle for a third place finish.

Modified Standout Nick Ladyga would put on an impressive run charging from his 19th starting position to finish fourth in the final tally. Flying Ryan Tidman would start and finish fifth in the Boyd Racing 1B running as high as third.

Anthony Payne would charge from fifteenth to be the top finishing rookie of the year candidate. Jeff Kot in the Behrents Performance 95 would hang on to finish seventh after running some quick laps in practice. Matt Roselli would finish eighth in his Laffler Chassis car after running the second quickest lap in practice. ARDC Midget, USAC Sprint and Micro Sprint Standout Tony Dimatia would race the 21 NYPA TQ Midget normally driven by Bobby Holmes at Lancaster Speedway to a strong ninth place. The season's top point earning Rookie Mark Yoder would cross the line tenth. Tim Proctor in his 98T would hang on to finish eleventh with Glaser rolling across the line twelfth.

The first heat race saw a front row of Joey Bailey and Mike Glaser with Bailey racing into the lead with Mark Yoder moving into second. Sutton would slowly make his way into second but couldn't mount a challenge to Bailey. Yoder would finish third with Jeff Kot fourth Alison Cumens fifth and Mike Glaser sixth to make the feature invert. Matt Janisch would finish seventh with an apparent electrical issue in his car.

The second heat race saw a pair of rookie brothers on the front row. Anthony and Joey Payne III brought the heat race to the green flag with Joey III getting the hole shot and taking the lead. The elder Payne brother appeared to be walking away to earn his first heat race win with the ATQMRA when he was black flagged with an oil leak. The younger Payne inherited the lead and went on to win the heat by 1.2 seconds over Ryan Tidman. Unfortunately the heat win was taken away from Rookie Anthony Payne for failing to report to the scales following the race and awarded to Multi Time ATQMRA Champion Flying Ryan Tidman. 2015 Champion Buddy Sload would finish second followed by Tim Proctor, Matt Roselli, New Englander Chris Hirt and Tony Dimatia.

Next up for the ATQMRA is a trip to Mahoning Valley in Lehighton, Pa for another winged race Mahoing's circular oval. The first trip to Mahoning saw current Point leader Matt Janisch easily outpace the field to earn the victory.   Second in Points Tidman has a strong history of success on the circular track and has used consistency to stay within striking distance to earn another championship.

Geoffrey Sutton who has back to back wins after winning the last show on the smallest rack the club races on at Wall Stadium's flat inner oval and backed it up by winning on the organization's largest track at the Waterford Speed Bowl will be gunning for his third win in a row and fourth of the season.

2015 Champion Buddy Sload has been Snake bitten in the 2016 campaign and will be focused on winning at the track where he secured his Championship with a feature win in last season's points finale. Matt Roselli has been ultra quick throughout the 2016 season being near the top of the speed charts at every track. He has been very successful on the Lehighton oval across the years and will surely be in contention.

Anthony Payne was one of the double duty drivers on the day running both his TQ Midget and the Mike Scrivani NEMA Lite Midget. After suffering a broken rear in practice and missing his heat he charged from starting shotgun on the field to finish fourth in the Midget main with a sixth place finish in the TQ Midget. It was recently announced that Anthony picked up a ride in a Small Block SuperModified after a successful test session.

Nick Ladyga raced his TQ and a Modified both numbered 38. Ladyga also started shotgun on the field in the TQ feature and made an impressive clean run through the field to finish fourth. In the companion 100 lap Modified feature event Ladyga would run as high as third before fading to an 11th place finish. Thanks to the Ladyga family who were instrumental in securing the race date at Waterford.

Several teams had ties back to the last time the ATQMRA raced at Wateford. Mike Tidaback who won the last race the club had at the Speedbowl was in the Metz Racing Driver Development Fred Delibero 01. It was an ill fated attempt as the car had cooling system issues on the hot day and relegated Tidaback to a DNF.

Joey Bailey was racing a revamped version of the very same Bruce's 02 car that his car owner Anthony Zuzzalo raced at Waterford in 1995 and had a similar day leading most of the laps but not being able to earn the victory. Hotrod Jon Gambutti was in the Alan Mollot 51 Lindblad Badger that raced with the club in 95 with multi time Champion Donnie Adams behind the wheel but called it a day after an overheating problem was discovered in practice.

Blu Metz drove the Joe Payne Sr. Rotax powered 67 car in 1995 but blew a pair of engines in practice. Metz was only able to watch Tidaback earn his first of many feature wins in his Lindblad Badger 43 as his wife went into Labor with his now 21 year old daughter Allezondra. Metz wasn't able to drive the car to victory lane in 95 but drove it out of victory lane after Sutton won the race in the Metz Racing Driver Development 461 car that was racing with the ATQRMA in 95. Sutton took the walk back to the pits through the grandstand area and was greeted with congratulations and cheers from the packed house.

ATQMRA News and Notes: 2009 ATQMRA Champion Alison Cumens raced her Fiance's 53 posting some quick laps but would have a DNF in the final tally. Chad Parks driving his Family owned 06 Drinan TQ made the trip from Binghamton, NY to race at the Speedbowl. Chris Hirt who cut his teeth driving quarter midgets in New England had his first opportunity to race the Tim Proctor 97 in his home state. New ATQRMA Car owner Fred Delibero had his 01 Burst/BGF Chassis on hand with Mike Tidaback behind the wheel to celebrate his birthday as part of the Metz Racing team and got to celebrate his birthday in style in Victory lane. Steve Whitt had the Hyper Hugger 11 on hand but was relegated to a DNF in the feature. Sutton thanked BGF Engine and Chassis for providing the Horsepower and ATQMRA veteran John Smith for helping the team use some old school adjustments to take the car's handling to a new level.

Sutton Sweeps the Day at Wall's Christmas in July Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic ATQMRA

July 23, 2016, Wall Stadium, NJ

Geoffrey Sutton Backed up his opening day feature win by sweeping the day's TQ midget racing action at the Speedway by the Shore Wall Stadium. Sutton pocketed the $300.00 winners share and a Brice's NAPA Auto Parts NAPA Aluminum Racing Jack as a contingency prize. Joey Bailey and Sutton were heat race winners. Sutton was chased across the line by Matt Janisch and Ryan Tidman who scored another podium finish. Next up for the ATQMRA is a trip to the Waterford Speedbowl in Connecticut for winged racing action on Saturday August 6th.

The First heat race saw Joey Bailey and Mike Glaser take the green. Bailey shot into the lead followed by Glaser with Ryan Tidman sliding into second. Jeff Kot in his Behrent's Performance 95 Badger assuming the third spot by the end of the second lap. Matt Jansich charged from his sixth starting position to overtake Kot for third on lap six. Kot would finish fourth followed by Anthony Payne with Tim Proctor taking the final transfer position.
The second heat saw Geoffrey Sutton move from his third starting position to lead the first lap and was followed into the lead by the always fast Matt Roselli. The pair would finish one two with Sutton earning the win over Roselli. Top rookie of the year candidate Mark Yoder finished third with 2015 ATQMRA Champion Buddy Sload fourth followed by Don Zrinski and Mark Rogers.

The ATQMRA 25 lap feature saw Joey Bailey and Tim Proctor lead the field for the club's impressive four abreast parade lap and salute to the fans. When the green flag flew Tim Proctor moved into the lead over Bailey until Bailey completed a pass to lead the third circuit. Matt Roselli would move into second with Geoffrey Sutton riding in third. Sutton would make his move to take the lead on lap twelve with Bailey Sitting second until a cooling system failure ended Bailey's day on lap thirteen collecting Roselli in the process.

The always fast Matt Jansich picked his way through the field to put himself on Sutton's bumper for the restart after methodically advancing from his tenth starting position. Since it was past half way the restart was single file and Sutton was able to get a five car length advantage over Janisch and held serve over the final laps. Flying Ryan Tidman continued his streak of consistent finishes rounding out the podium. Mark Rogers piloted his 27 car to a fourth place finish with Matt Roselli charging back through the field to earn a solid fifth place finish. Top Rookie Mark Yoder raced his Hyper Hugger to sixth with Buddy Sload finishing seventh. Andrew Krause Anthony Payne and Mike Glaser rounded out the top ten.

The always fast Jeff Kot in his Behrents Peformance 95 worked his way into fifth place on track when his engine expired ending his chances of taking the checker.

Sutton ended Janisch's streak of four ATQMRA feature wins in a row making Janisch and Sutton the only drivers to find their way to Victory Lane with the ATQRMA in 2016. Ironically both Janisch and Sutton earned their first ATQMRA wins in the same Metz Racing car that Sutton currently pilots.

A special thanks goes out to Bill Brice of Brice's NAPA Auto Stores for supporting all of the divisions racing at Wall and his efforts with the ATQMRA. Geoffrey Sutton earned a NAPA Aluminum Racing Jack as a contingency award for winning the feature.

Next up for the ATQMRA Is a trip to the New London Ct's Waterford Speedbowl on August 6th. This will be the first trip to the Speedbowl since Mike Tidaback earned his first feature win in his Father Bob's Suzuki Gamma Powered Lindblad Badger in September of 1995. Northeast Modified ace Nick Ladyga and a host of others to be announced will take on the ATQMRA faithful on the 3/8 mile Speedbowl.

Janisch Wins at Wall on Garden State Classic Night ATQMRA Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic Cops Fourth Win in a Row

June 25, 2016 Wall Stadium, NJ

Matt Janisch of Nazareth, Pa has won his fair share of ATQMRA races across the years and earned himself a championship in 2014. Since the second race of the season nobody else has visited victory lane. Janisch earned four ATQMRA feature race wins in a row. Janisch earned the win over second running Buddy Sload with Geoffrey Sutton rounding out the podium. Heat Races were won by Matt Roselli in his New Laffler Chassis mount with Rookie of the year Candidate Mark Yoder picking up the win in the other qualifier. Popular Wall racer Ronnie the Rocket Mullen took a wild ride in the feature but is ok after being checked out at the Jersey Shore Medical Center. The ATQRMA sees action next back at Wall on July 16.

The feature saw a front row of Tim Proctor and Ronnie Mullen take the green flag but before a lap could be completed contact between Buddy Sload and Jeff Kot sent Kot Spinning into the infield slowing the field.

On the second attempt it was Tim Proctor charging into the lead with Joey Bailey in tow with Matt Roselli in third. Proctor would surrender the lead to Bailey entering the first turn on lap three. Bailey looked strong but his time in front of the pack was short lived when an electrical gremlin reared its ugly head relegating him to a DNF in the final tally. Bailey who won the ATQMRA's last race on the high banks showed the prowess to contend on Wall's flat inner oval as well.

While side by side racing was happening throughout the pack Janisch was methodically picking his was to the front. Janisch was sharp as usual after having run four races in the last week Winning Bethel last Saturday with the wing on and running third and fourth in Speedstr competition in between. Proctor resumed command when Bailey fell out only to be overtaken by Janisch on lap eight.

Janisch in his Yuhas Chassis Mark Janisch powered combination would run off the fastest lap of the day and cruised to the win by 2.5 seconds over a battle between Buddy Sload and Geoffrey Sutton for second and third. When Sutton charged from his 12th starting position into third behind Sload the two had spirited battle swapping cross over moves with inside and outside passes for the second position. Sload came out on top in the battle for second with Sutton third. Tim Proctor rolled across the line fourth with Rookie of the year hopeful Mark Yoder crossing the line fifth.

The feature race was stopped on the thirteenth lap when Popular Wall Racer Ronnie the Rocket Mullen of nearby Brick Township went flipping down the back straight away. Following a precautionary trip to the hospital Mullen was bruised and sore but uninjured otherwise. His Classic Competition Dart Chassis did its job and kept the driver safe.

The first heat race was won by Matt Roselli who charged from his fourth starting position to earn the qualifier win over Jeff Kot, Matt Janisch, Anthony Payne and Ronnie Mullen with Mark Rogers picking up the last qualifying spot.

The second heat saw Mark Yoder work from his fourth starting position to take the lead in the waning laps. Yoder had a strong day at Wall earning his first ATQMRA Heat Race win and ran a strong fifth in the feature. Yoder Bested Jeff Kot followed by Janisch Anthony Payne, and a pair of Wall Regulars in Ron Mullen and Mark Rogers.

Next up for the ATQMRA is back at the Speedway by the Shore Wall Stadium for some more exciting short track racing on Wall's inner flat oval. Racing on the inner track and speedway management has helped to create resurgence in participation in the outdoor TQ ranks with the club drawing an eighteen car per race average. As teams have adapted to the flat track racing without wings the racing has improved and many drivers have demonstrated the ability to make passes on the outside and race side by side.

ATQMRA News and Notes: Matt Janisch, the 2005 ATQMRA Rookie of the year as well as 2014 Champion had a busy week racing a SpeedSTR to a third and fourth place finish on dirt demonstrating his throwback ability to adapt to both pavement and dirt. Blu Metz of the Metz Racing Driver Development Team took his 46 TQ to the Weatherly Hill climb on June 12th and Blasted up the paved mountain road making both rights and lefts timing 48th overall against 92 competitors. The ATQMRA has seen an uptick in the payouts teams receive from each event. Mark Ludwig was on hand as race Director for his first event in that position with the ATQMRA taking over for Bill Brice moving forward.   Teams are reminded that they have an opportunity to put their cars on display in front of the crowd at Pocono for the IndyCar weekend on August 20 and 21st. Janisch Completes Fathers Day Hat Trick at Bethel Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic ATQMRA

Bethel, NY June 20, 2016

When the ATQMRA hit the quarter mile oval at Bethel Motor Speedway Current point leader Matt Janisch was riding a two race win streak after winning on Wall's inner oval and Mahoning prior to that. His win at Bethel gives him three in a row at three completely different tracks. Heat Races were won by Johnny Hotrod Gambutti and Tim Proctor. Next up for the ATQRMA is a trip to Wall for some wingless racing on that track's inner oval on Saturday June 25th.

The feature had Tim Proctor and Ronnie Mullen take the green flag. It looked similar to the start of the heat race with Proctor jumping into the lead. A lap four caution was brought out by Geoffrey Sutton and put Buddy Sload on the outside Pole with Proctor. The result was again the same. Proctor jumped into the lead and looked to be on his way to his first ATQMRA win. In the mean time Janisch was methodically working his way through the field from his eleventh starting position.

Janisch moved into second on lap eleven and began to attempt to real in Proctor. Without the aid of a caution Janisch was aided by Proctor being held up negotiating lapped traffic, Janisch made the decisive move with two laps to go entering the third turn and lead the final two circuits to get the win over a second finishing Proctor Followed by Buddy Sload Jon Gambutti and Matt Roselli.

Unfortunately Proctors banner day ended on a down note as his car was found to be over the limit on tread width. A dejected Proctor said following the race he changed the right rear tire and didn't re-check his width. Apparently the replacement wheel was of a slightly different offset leading to the disqualification.

The first heat race saw a front row of Tim Proctor and Mike Glaser bring the field to the green with Proctor powering into the lead. Proctor took off and left the rest of the field in his dust easily outdistancing second finishing 2015 champion Buddy Sload followed by Matt Roselli, Jeff Kot Joey Bailey and Mark Yoder to earn a position in the handicap for the feature.

The second heat race saw a front row of Rookie of the Year hopefuls Ronnie the Rocket Mullen and Joey Payne III take the green with Mullen rocketing into the lead. Mullen opened a gap on second running Jon Gambutti before a caution fell for a spinning Bill Force Jr. On the restart Gambutti quickly took the lead with Ryan Tidman Janisch Geoffrey Sutton and Mullen crossing the line ahead of Payne who earned the last transfer spot.

Next up for the ATQMRA is a trip to Wall for some wingless racing on Wall's inner oval that has been extremely competitive. Janisch will be looking to make it four wins in a row on Saturday June 25th.

ATQMRA News and Notes:  The ATQMRA was accompanied by the vintage Division of the ATQMRA that had a number of cars from the history of the organization on hand to do some vintage racing. Drew Fornoro driving the Robert Noll owned Wherle 02 that was one of the winningest cars in the history of the ATQMRA won the four stroke division feature with Tom Arntz winning the two stroke division.

Janisch Wins on Wall Inner Oval Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic ATQMRA

Matt Janisch of Nazareth Pa earned his second feature win of the season at Wall Stadium in wingless competition on Wall's inner oval after a heated Battle with early race leader Ryan Tidman. Heat Races were won by Don Zrinski and Geoffrey Sutton. The ATQMRA Racing on Wall's inner oval have become known for their exciting race starts coming in the Box a quarter of the way down the straight away resulting in five wide racing when the green flag flies. Next up for the ATQMRA is a trip to Bethel Motor Speedway for winged racing on Saturday June 18th.

A feature race front row of Flying Ryan Tidman and Don the Snake Zrinski took the initial green flag with cars fanning out five wide in the Start box. But it didn't work out that well when the cars entered the tight turns on Wall's inner oval as Zrinski and several other competitors tangled bringing out a caution before a lap was complete. Involved was Season opening Winner Geoffrey Sutton, Ron Mullen, Tim Proctor, Buddy Sload, Kerry Irwin, Anthony Payne, Matt Janisch and Steve Whitt. The incident was keyed when Zrinski and Multi time series Champion Don Adams tangled mid turn.

The restart saw a front row of Tidman and Adams take the green with Tidman gaining the advantage. Sutton and Janisch quickly made their way through the field and put themselves in contention by lap five from their 12th and 13th starting positions.

A tangle between front Running Mark Yoder and Joey Bailey brought out the caution when Yoder spun exiting turn four. The restart saw Sutton take to the third groove and sweep from his fourth starting position to nearly taking the lead from Tidman entering the third turn. The tight racing jumbled the leaders and gave Janisch the opening he needed to retake the lead after being set back for jumping an earlier restart.

Sutton's day ended on lap 12 when his engine expired slowing the action one more time. From there on it was Janisch all the way earning the victory over Tidman with Joey Bailey in the Alan Mollot 51 Badger finishing third. Jeff Kot and Buddy Sload rounded out the top five. Mark Yoder rebounded to post a sixth place finish with Anthony Payne rolling across the line seventh followed by fellow Rookies Chris Hirt and Joey Payne III with Kerry Irwin rounding out the top ten.

The first heat race saw Don Zrinski take the checker with a lap six pass of Yoder to take the heat race win over Yoder followed by Anthony Payne with Joey Bailey, Tim Proctor, and Don Adams making the invert.

The second heat saw Geoffrey Sutton sweep into the lead early and lead every lap to post the win. Matt Roselli who was racing a brand new Laffler Chassis car finished second after being the fastest TQ in Practice but didn't start the feature due to an uncharacteristic mechanical issue. Jeff Kot, Matt Janisch, Ryan Tidman, and Buddy Sload rounded out the redraw cars.

ATQMRA News and Notes:  Feature winner Matt Jansich sits atop the point standings after backing up his win at Mahoning a few weeks ago with another feature victory at Wall. This marks his second feature win at Wall after winning the Turkey Derby to cap his 2014 Championship season in style on the high banks of Wall Stadium. Janisch in Victory lane thanked his Father Mark for Building the strong Engines that power him to Victory in his Yuhas Chassis car.

Joey Bailey wasn't planning to race this weekend's race at Wall with his Zuzzalo 02 sidelined with engine problems from Mahoning Valley. Multi time Championship winning car owner Alan Mollot was without a driver when regular shoe Jon Gambutti was under the weather. Mollot put the 2013 ATQMRA Rookie of the year Bailey in the car and had to be happy with the podium finish on after struggling to get hooked up on Wall's flat inner oval. Joey is the second generation of Bailey to race the Famous red 51 car following in his father's footsteps behind the wheel of the potent Mollot mount that has countless feature wins on Wall's high banks and at just about every track the ATQMRA has competed at across the years.

Second Generation ATQMRA competitor Rookie Chris Hirt made his debut in the Tim Proctor 97 earning an eighth place finish. Chris' father Ken Hirt was a regular competitor with the ATQMRA through the 90s and early 2000's in the Rick Arnold 78 cars.

Ten Time ATQMRA Champion Don Adams returned to competition in the Lawshie 52 car after sorting out some handling issues the car was fast enough to earn a spot in the feature redraw and a 12th place finish.

Steve Whitt, Steve Craig and Don Zrinski made their first races of the season. Zrinski following his heat win looked poised to earn another strong finish but wasn't able to complete a lap after getting bent up on the initial race start. The Steve's of Whitt and Craig were both DNF's in the feature.
