ATQMRA Top Storylines

Buddy Sload: Hot off of an impressive comeback victory at Waterford, Sload is looking to lead the charge for Spitfire Racing again this weekend in Bethel. He has his eyes set on the championship, as he only follows championship leader Matt Janisch by a mere 8-points.

Cole Mullen: The sophomore slump has been a real thing for Cole this year, as he trails championship leader Janisch by 60-points. A part failure plagued his top-5 contending run at Waterford, however he looks to bounce back and set his sights on a strong run at Bethel.

Point Standings: The points have remained tight through two events, with the top-6 in standings only separated by 32-points. Will Matt Janisch be able to hang on after Bethel? Or will drivers like Sload, Tidman, Yoder and Bailey be able to take the reins of the top spot after this weekend?

Rule Changes Announced for Wall Stadium

On the last Sunday of April, the Hoosier Mid-Atlantic ATQMRA powered by VP hosted an organizational test at Wall Stadium Speedway, NJ. After what was deemed a successful test session by both ATQMRA officials and track management, the following rules changes will be implemented for (at least) the first three ATQMRA Wall Stadium events this season:

1.    Wings:All competitors will be required to race with wings mounted to their cars per ATQMRA rulebook specifications.

2.    Cone Rule:For every restart, competitors will be required to start single file. A cone will be placed “one-lane” off the yellow line that extends around the perimeter of the racing surface. Competitors will not be able to advance their position prior to passing the cone to their inside. With this being said, competitors will continue to initially start the race (only) double-file. However, like the restarts, competitors will not be able to advance their position until passing the cone to their inside. The cone will be placed “two-lanes” off the yellow line on the initial start.

Through this industry wide effort, the end goal is to not only enhance the on-track product from a performance standpoint, but from a safety standpoint as well. As mentioned, these rules will be implemented for the ATQMRA events on May 26th, July 7th, and August 25th, 2018. A rules packaged for both the September 22ndATQMRA event as well as for the annual running of the “Turkey Derby” will be announced on a future date.

ATQMRA Top Story Lines

Ryan Tidman:
After a quiet top-5 finish at Mahoning, Tidman returns to the venue he earned a victory last season. Tidman hopes history repeats itself this weekend as the quest to defend their championship continues for the Boyd Racing team.

Jon Keller:
Jon did everything right at Mahoning Valley, by completing all the laps and keeping his panels clean as he debuted his new Yuhas Chassis. His car has a strong history at Waterford with former driver Jeff Kot, and he will look to add to that success this weekend.

Series Invaders:
This weekend will be the first of three opportunities for New England racers to earn victory in the Hoosier Mid-Atlantic ATQMRA powered by VP. History has proven for Waterford to be a track where the series experiences many invaders (drivers who do not race on the full-tour) and a stout list of entries are expected at the Connecticut circuit this weekend.

ATQMRA Top Story Lines

  • Ryan Tidman: As he comes fresh of his 2018 Hoosier Mid-Atlantic ATQMRA Championship, Tidman seeks to start his season off on a high note and grab himself a checkered flag this Saturday.
  • Kris Graver: Although he is not a household name within the ATQMRA, Mahoning Valley Speedway regular Kris Graver hopes that history repeats itself from this past September. Graver will be seeking back-to-back series victories at his home track Saturday night.
  • Joey Bailey: As it has been previously highlighted, Joey Bailey has a new team with the same agenda as he seeks his first ATQMRA championship. Bailey will be debuting his brand new #51B entry for Allan Mollot’s team this weekend. Of course a trip to victory lane is the goal, however a solid podium finish will kick Bailey’s championship run into high gear.
